DevOps Lead

We are looking for an experience DevOps Lead to join us on our scale-up journey and to take ownership of our service delivery and infrastructure.

In this role you are expected to build the centralised DevOps environment that Phronesis depends on. You will own and drive the entire solution and architecture to be highly secure, performant, reliable, extensible, and automated. Working alongside our Lead Software Development Engineer, you will ensure all instrastructure is ‘coded-into’ services.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage and support our existing systems estate including firewalls, cloud architecture and software development tools
  • In partnership with the Product Director and Technical Advisor, lead the design and implementation of DevOps architecture and automation solutions including but not limited to: infrastructure security, automated provisioning and CI/CD pipeline
  • Work closely with the Lead Software Development Engineer to proactively manage our development and release pipeline, ensuring code quality, no-fault releases and test coverage
  • Take ownership of our DevOps engineering standards, approach, governance and strategy, translating business problems into technical designs
  • Regularly assess our networking and infrastructure security e.g. network scanning, SSL labs, AAA ratings etc.
  • Seek out continuous improvements and apply architectural thinking across our entire technology stack, drive innovation and best practice
  • Schedule and undertake maintenance and respond to service incidents
  • Introduce and manage an improved support desk function for all customer interactions, from software release to planned work, and service incidents
  • Manage Atlassian-based interactions (e.g. Confluence, Statuspage, Opsgenie), ensuring collaboration and knowledge sharing is undertaken
  • Be an evangelist for technology and innovation within our space, and your specific domain

 

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a senior or principal development or DevOps engineer (or equivalent role) ideally having worked on projects and architecture within a start-up or scale-up environment previously
  • Working knowledge of PHP 7.x, JavaScript, Postman, Newman, Atlassian Bamboo
  • Strong practical experience and skills with the latest container products e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, infrastructure design (networking, load balancing, CDN), middleware e.g. message queue (RabbitMQ, Kafka), automation (Ansible, Chef, Cloud-Init, CloudFormation) and CI/CD pipeline (Jenkins, GoCD, CircleCI)
  • Expert understanding and experience with cloud platforms and architecture, ideally Digital Ocean, with Azure, AWS, GCP, Lamba functions
  • Solid understanding and mindset on cloud-based security solutions and architecture design and implementation
  • Monitoring experience, using tools such as Prometheus, AppDynamics, Akamai
  • Experience of deploying multi-jurisdictional solutions for regulatory compliance

 

It would also be advantageous to hold a Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related field, to possess experience in team management and to have development experience with micro-services-based frontend and backend applications.
